What salary fits your job?

Almost everyone in salaried employment performs his or her work for a set salary. This is often set at the start of the employment contract and will increase slightly each year. But how do you actually know what salary fits your job? Don’t other people with the same tasks and responsibilities earn more than you? With our three tips and tricks, you can easily figure this out for yourself.

View your pay scale

The first way you can find out if your salary is appropriate is by looking at your pay scale. Each employer classifies employees’ salaries according to certain salary scales. These are some categories within which salaries fall.

For example, are you a senior employee? Then you will be assigned to a higher salary scale than your junior colleagues. The scales are often linked to particular job groups. So you can check if your position matches the corresponding pay scale.

Do a salary check

Second, it is a good idea to do a salary check via the Internet. For this purpose, several sites can be found where you can compare your salary with that of others with the same position. Among other things, you can enter how many years of experience you have, what industry you work in, what your age is and what your level of education is. This then rolls out an average salary for your (future) job.

Ask around among family and friends

Do you talk easily about money? Then you may also choose to ask around in your area. Perhaps you have friends or family working in the same industry as you. If they are willing to share their salary with you, you can also assess just a little more whether your own salary is appropriate. Or perhaps you have a good relationship with a colleague and can start the conversation with him or her. In the ELFIN community you can also ask around among the thousands of other women if there is anyone with a similar profession and what salary they have.

So in these ways you will find out what salary suits your work and activities. Do you think you deserve a higher salary? Then have a conversation with your employer and present good arguments. Who knows what will come out of it!
