1 | Look back at 2023

We would have liked it to be different, but 2023 was also an eventful year. Inflation remained high, the world of investing was a roller coaster, So chances are your expenses and income looked different from any other year. Therefore, chart what came in and what went out. It is good to have an overview of major sources of income and major expenses. This way, you can see where most of your money is going and also have insight into where you might be able to save.

Overview check? Then you can start setting financial goals. Maybe you want to make more sales when you are an entrepreneur, or maybe you want to save more so you can make your first investment soon. Or maybe you really want to book the tropical beach vacation this year. Whatever your plans are, put them on paper and tie a financial goal to them, rather than living (and nagging) in the back of your mind for another year. 3 | Check your health insurance

Gulp, next year the price of your health insurance will go up significantly. You can still adjust or switch until the end of January, so by all means do so and start on time! Maybe you’re paying for something you absolutely don’t need, or health insurance is cheaper elsewhere. Via Zorgwijzer or Independer you can easily compare health insurance policies.

4 | Get your administration in order

Ah, the administration. Especially as an entrepreneur, this is a major pain in the ass. To save yourself stress for when you have to file your tax return in April, you would do well to get your affairs in order now. Where are all the receipts? But also: did you start earning more? Or did you start investing? After all, that’s when things change for you tax-wise. Can’t figure it out yourself? Then engage a tax advisor.

5 | Check your vacation days

Ah, vacation! The nicest of this list. If you are salaried and still have vacation days left, check carefully to see if they will carry over to next year. If not, you can still record them quickly and suddenly have a very long Christmas…. 🙂

6 | Don’t forget your old age!

We accrue massively inadequate pensions, and women especially so. At 67, we will have 40% less retirement money than men. Work to be done! And that work is best done as early as possible. So check if you still have annual margin to supplement, and make smart use of tax advantages. Check out this article to learn all about annual margin.
